Abstract

Most roads built in Indonesia are made of flexible pavement, especially asphalt concrete. One country that uses flexible pavement layers is Indonesia. Due to its diverse culture and tourism industry, Indonesia attracts many visitors from both within and outside the country. This increases the amount of traffic on the road, thereby accelerating the deterioration of the road surface. This requires a strong and comfortable pavement layer to withstand heavy loads. The motorist layer can access infrastructure services through flexible pavement (Hesami et al, 2014). The aim of this research is to determine the effect of variations in bauxite ash filler on the Marshall characteristics of the Superpave mixture with variations of 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%. bauxite ash filler as a substitute material with a soaking time of 0 hours, 6 hours, 24 hours, 48 hours. This research was carried out in 4 stages, namely the first was to test the physical properties of the material, the second stage was to determine the optimum asphalt content in proportions of 4%, 4.5%, 5%, 5.5%, 6%, the third stage was to carry out a standard Marshall test on the levels optimum asphalt. With variations in bauxite ash filler. The fourth stage of the Marshall test, with variations in soaking time in fresh water and sea water with variations in bauxite ash filler 0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, 100%, with soaking times 0 hours 6 hours 24 hours 48 hours analysis and discussion of the results of tests that have been carried out, and drawing conclusions.. The results of the study show that in terms of bauxite ash it is suitable to be used as a substitute filler for the Superpave mixture. The greater the percentage of replacement of rock ash filler by bauxite ash in the Superpave mixture, the stability, VIM and VMA values increase, while the flow, VFA and MQ values of the mixture decrease. The greater the proportion of bauxite ash filler in the soaking time in fresh water and sea water, the greater the stability value, VIM, VMA, while the flow, VFA, MQ values decrease.
