Abstract
Pekanbaru City is one of the red brick producing areas. The increasing development that occurs in Pekanbaru City results in an increase in the amount of building materials used, which in this case certainly has an impact on increasing production as well as improving the quality of production. competitiveness in the market. By examining the physical and mechanical properties of red bricks, it is hoped that good strength can be obtained, and this type of red brick can be used properly in buildings. The purpose of this research is to know the physical and mechanical properties of red bricks in Pekanbaru. This study used laboratory experimental methods, with physical and mechanical properties testing including testing, appearance, salt content, water absorption, density, compressive strength. The rectangular prism-shaped test object was taken from 6 different red brick factory locations, with each factory taking 15 red bricks that had been produced and then tested in the laboratory. From the physical properties testing carried out consists of measuring dimensions, weighing weight, color, cross section and salt content. Sample codes B and D meet all physical properties requirements, while other sample codes only meet the salt content test. The mechanical properties testing consisted of water absorption testing, density testing, and compressive strength. All samples met the requirements of water absorption testing with values between 5.75% - 18.52% where the value of SNI 15-2094-2000 provisions is 20%, and density testing with values between 1.56 grams / cm3 - 1.77 grams / cm3 with provisions in SNI 15-2094-2000 minimum 1.2 grams / cm3. As for compressive strength, there are no samples that meet the required standards in SNI 15-2094-2000 with a minimum value of 50 Kg/cm3 Kg/cm3, with the highest to lowest test values being 25.07 Kg/cm3-44.5 Kg/cm3.
