Abstract
Religious literacy is everything related to reading, writing and efforts to gain knowledge about religion. Religious literacy aims not only to provide religious knowledge to the community, but also to provide an understanding of Islam, so that the people become wiser in responding to a pluralistic reality. In the world of education, religious literacy is an important thing that the students have, because it is the key to success for them in understanding the religion properly, not only in terms of normative doctrine but also how religion can be applied in a social context. This study aims to investigate the understanding of Islamic Studies teachers regarding religious literacy and the efforts to apply religious literacy to students. This is a qualitative study with a case study approach. The subject of the study is the Islamic Studies teachers, the school principal, and librarians. Based on the results of the study, it can be seen that the understanding of Islamic Studies teachers regarding religious literacy and the efforts to apply religious literacy to students are good. There are four categories of the efforts to apply religious literacy to students, namely reading about religion, writing about religion, talking about religion, and understanding about religion.
