Abstract

This study aims to investigate the level of mastery of problem-based learning method according to students in learning at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru, to investigate the level of students? life skills in learning at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru, and to investigate the influence of problem-based learning method on students? life skills in learning at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru. This is a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The subject of the study is the students in grade VII and VIII of MTsN 3 Pekanbaru. The population of the study consists of 216 students with a sample of 140 students. Based on the results of data processing and data analysis, it can be concluded that, first, the level of mastery of the problem-based learning method in the perception of students at MTsN 3 is in the sufficient category. Second, the level of students? life skills at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru is in the sufficient category. Third, the alternative hypothesis stating that there is an influence of the problembased learning method on students? life skills in learning at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru is accepted (P <0.05). The influence of the use of problem-based learning method on students? life skills at MTsN 3 Pekanbaru is very low (0.106 or 10.6%) which is in the range (0.00 – 0.199), while the remaining 89.4% is influenced by other factors. It can be predicted that if the problem-based learning method is applied so that it can increase students? life skills by 0.888 (88.8%). Vice versa, if the problem-based learning method is not applied, it is predicted to decrease students? life skills by 0.888 (88.8%). It can be concluded that the problem-based learning method (X) has an influence on life skills (Y), thus the alternative hypothesis is accepted.
