Abstract

Illegal logging is all organized illegal utilization of timber forest products. The high demand for timber and the fantastic price have pushed actors and intellectuals to engage in illegal logging activities. As a result of illegal logging in the forest that continues to occur, it will have an impact on fatal forest damage, namely deforestation which can cause natural disasters and future generations will not be able to enjoy sustainable forest products. The main problem in this research is how to deal with criminal acts of illegal logging in the jurisdiction of the Riau Regional Police and what are the obstacles in tackling illegal logging in the jurisdiction of the Riau Regional Police. This research was conducted using empirical legal research methods, namely research with field data as the main data source obtained from interviews, questionnaires and field observations which were used as information data as material in writing this research. Based on the research results, it is understood that there are several factors that cause a person to commit illegal logging crimes including economic factors, lack of public awareness, social factors, industrial demand factors, educational factors. therefore the police have made various efforts to combat illegal logging such as pre-emptive, preventive and repressive efforts. As for the obstacles faced by the police in tackling illegal logging crimes, namely internal obstacles and external obstacles.
