Abstract

This study is based on the awareness of the importance of EQ (emotional intelligence) but it is still always put second because the public considers IQ (intellectual intelligence) to be more important to improve, especially SQ (spiritual intelligence) which is only considered as a complement. So, it is not surprising that there are many students who excel but they have poor religious behavior and there are many students who still ignore their responsibilities in carrying out the educational process at school and the interactions in society. These cases even extend to the education of university level. This study aims to find out how religiosity influences students’ emotional intelligence. This is a quantitative study with a causality approach, that is a study intended to find out the influence between two variables. This study was conducted at the Islamic Education (PAI) Study Program of the Islamic University of Riau. The population of the study consists of 111 Islamic education students in academic year 2020 at the Islamic University of Riau. The number of sample is taken by using the Slovin formula so that a sample size of 87 respondents. The results of the study show that the religiosity of Islamic education students in academic year 2020 at the Islamic University of Riau is in the good category, while the emotional intelligence is in the good category. Moreover, based on statistical tests with the F-test, the significance value is 0.00<0.05. It means that there is an influence of the religiosity on the emotional intelligence of Islamic Education Students at the Islamic University of Riau.
