Abstract

The study is motivated by students’ lack of confidence in telling the truth. This study aims to investigate the influence of teacher exemplarity on student honest character at SMAN 2 Siak Hulu. The teacher exemplarity is related to one of the four competencies, that is the personality competency. Because each teacher has his/her own personality according to his/her personal characteristics, so a person's exemplarity can only be seen from their appearance, actions, speech, fashion, and attitudes in dealing with problems. This is a quantitative study with an explanatory approach. The sampling technique of the study is simple random sampling taken by the Slovin formula which obtains a total sample of 200 respondents. The data collection technique of the study is questionnaire distributed in the form of Google Form. The data analysis techniques of the study are the simple linear regression and the coefficient of determination (R²) performed by the SPSS software for Windows version 24. The results of the study on the teacher exemplarity show that in terms of the teacher exemplarity level at SMAN 2 Siak Hulu is in the very good category by 87%. The teacher exemplarity at SMAN 2 Siak Hulu in building the student honest character is by controlling themselves. The level of Student Honest Character at SMAN 2 Siak Hulu is categorized as good, which is 83.9%. The teachers always apply the honest character, so that the students get used to following the rules that have been mutually agreed upon in the class. If there are students who violate school rules or regulations in the classroom, they will be given punishments/sanctions which aim to provide a deterrent effect. The alternative hypothesis of the study is accepted stating that there is an influence of teacher exemplarity on student honest character at SMAN 2 Siak Hulu. The result of the data analysis based on the correlation result table between the two variables is 0.558 or 55.8%. So it can be concluded that the two variables are strongly correlated and the direction of the relationship is positive, it means that the higher the teacher exemplarity, the higher the student honest character.
