Abstract

This study was motivated by the lack of implementation of discussion method in education, particularly at the Islamic Junior High School Islamiyah Desa Baru. The aim of this research was to determine how the discussion method influenced students' active learning in Islamic Education subject for the 7th, 8th, and 9th-grade students at the Islamic Junior High School Islamiyah. This research was of a quantitative correlational type. The subjects of this study were the 7th, 8th, and 9thgrade students at the Islamic Junior High School Islamiyah Desa Baru. The sample was collected using a saturated sampling method, meaning that all 89 students from the study population were included. The data collection methods used were questionnaires and documentation. The results of this study showed that the application of the discussion method had an influence on students' engagement, with a significant value of 0.001. The percentage of the discussion method's influence on students' engagement was "moderate" at 0.553, which means 55.3%. The study also indicated that the discussion method contributed 53.6% to the level of students' engagement. Based on these findings, it was concluded that there was a relationship between the discussion style chosen by the students and their level of engagement.
