Abstract

This study is motivated by the problems of students’ politeness at SMAN 1 Ukui, such as the students do not behave properly and politely when interacting with their teachers. Even though the teachers at SMAN 1 Ukui have provided good examples to their students. The study aims to investigate the influence of Malay cultural teachings (Tunjuk Ajar Melayu) on students’ politeness at SMAN 1 Ukui. This is a quantitative study with a correlational approach. The population of the study consists of 121 students. The data collection techniques of the study are questionnaires and documentation. This study has two variables, the variable X (Impelementing Malay cultural teachings) and the variable Y (Students’ politeness). In this study, the results of the hypothesis testing show that the significance value of 0.00 < 0.05, it means that there is an influence of the implementation of Malay cultural teachings on students’ politeness at SMAN 1 Ukui. The magnitude of the influence can be seen in the summary table, namely the R-squared value of 0.142 or 14.2%. It means that the students’ politeness is influenced by the implementation of Malay cultural teachings by 14.2% which is included in the very weak category. So it can be concluded that the results of the study show that there is an influence of the implementation of Malay cultural teachings on the students’ politeness at SMAN 1 Ukui. Therefore, it is very important to implement the Malay cultural teachings to improve the students’ politeness to be better. Then, it is hoped that other researchers will conduct futher studies by using various methods related to the Malay cultural teachings in order to discover new findings to improve students’ politeness besides implementing the Malay cultural teachings as the researcher has conducted.
