Abstract

Social media today is no longer a tool for finding information, but to find out more valuable activities carried out by other people compared to their experiences, causing fear to arise if they do not know other people's activities on social media, which is called fear of missing out. Fear of missing out behavior is caused by several factors, including the intensity of social media use. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the intensity of social media use on FoMO (Fear of Missing Out) in Generation Z. The data collection method in this study used the Social Media Use Intensity Scale developed by Ardari (2016) which was used as the basis for compiling the intensity of social media use consisting of 34 items. The scale used to measure fear of missing out in this study is the fear of missing out scale or commonly called FoMO consisting of 10 items developed by Przybyiski et al. (2013). The sample in this study was 399 Generation Z students who were social media users obtained through the purposive sampling method. The statistical analysis used in this study was the simple linear regression method. The results showed that the calculated t value = 8.801> t table 1.971; p (0.000) < 0.05. Thus, it can be interpreted that the intensity of social media use has a positive effect on fear of missing out
