Abstract

This study aims to determine the types and factors that cause students' errors in solving story problems about quadrilateral flat building material based on the Nolting theory procedure. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects were class VII SMPN 6 Siak Hulu, totaling 19 people. Data collection techniques are test and interview techniques. The instruments used were test sheets and interview guidelines. The data analysis technique uses the Miles and Huberman technique which includes: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the research results obtained that there are 5 types of errors in solving story problems based on Nolting's theory. The types of errors that most students make are test-talking errors, misread directions errors, concept errors, study errors, and careless errors. In general, the factors that cause students to make mistakes are not understanding the concept of material so that students leave answers blank, not used to working on problems in a complete way, not understanding unit writing, rarely repeating the material taught, not understanding the concept of multiplication well, and not reading or ignoring the instructions for working on problems.
