Abstract
Online gambling has become an increasingly prevalent phenomenon in the digital era, with various negative impacts on its participants, including difficulties in controlling gambling impulses. This study aims to explore self-control among online gambling participants in Pekanbaru, focusing on the factors that influence their ability to control gambling impulses and the coping strategies they employ. The research uses a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews involving three participants who are actively engaged in online gambling. The findings reveal that participants experience significant difficulties in controlling their gambling behavior, despite being aware of its negative consequences, especially when faced with stressful or boring situations. Although efforts are made to avoid gambling through alternative activities and seeking social support, the urge to gamble remains strong and challenging to overcome. This study highlights the importance of developing more comprehensive and structured interventions to address online gambling addiction, including a more holistic approach that encompasses the psychological, social, and emotional aspects of gambling behavior.
