Abstract
This study aims to describe academic procrastination in thesis completion among students of the Informatics Engineering Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Islam Riau. The research employed in-depth interviews with five students currently working on their theses. Findings indicate that procrastination in thesis work is influenced by both internal and external factors. Internal factors include a decline in motivation, self-doubt (perceived ability), and a tendency to avoid academic stress by engaging in more enjoyable activities, such as gaming or socializing. External factors include technical constraints, limited access to scholarly resources, and insufficient guidance from academic advisors. The impact of procrastination is evident in reduced thesis quality, increased anxiety and stress, delayed graduation, and additional financial and psychological burdens on students. Furthermore, procrastination strains relationships with academic advisors, as students feel reluctant to communicate due to delays in thesis progress. In conclusion, academic procrastination in thesis work is a complex issue requiring better time management and intensive academic support to help students complete their final projects with optimal quality and timeliness.
