Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the difference in learning motivation between male and female students in grade XI at SMAN 4 Pekanbaru in the subject of Arts and Culture, based on gender. Motivation is the awareness to achieve a goal, and learning motivation is the process through which students become aware of their goal and strive to reach it. Gender itself is considered to have an impact on learning motivation. This study uses a quantitative-descriptive approach and a questionnaire as the research instrument. The sample in this study consisted of 208 students in grade XI at SMAN 4 Pekanbaru. The data analysis technique used was an independent sample t-test, which resulted in Sig. (2-tailed) values of 0.013 and 0.014, showing a significant difference in learning motivation based on gender. The data collected from the respondents also indicated different tendencies. There were sub-indicators with higher scores among male respondents compared to female respondents, and some sub-indicators showed the same values. The analysis of the questionnaire responses indicates a significant difference in learning motivation between male and female students in the Arts and Culture subject. Arts and Culture is a subject that focuses more on motor skills, and according to previous studies, males tend to have a greater ability to master motor skills, which contributes to higher learning motivation among male students.
