Abstract

This research explains Bawaslu's strategic role in ensuring integrity and fairness in general elections in Pekanbaru city. Elections are an important foundation in the exercise of popular sovereignty, allowing people to directly elect their representatives in parliament as well as presidential and vice presidential candidates. Money politics refers to practices that seek to influence people or communities by promising material rewards, creating the dynamics of buying and selling votes in the political and power process, and involving the distribution of money, both from individuals and political parties, to influence election results. The research method used is descriptive research with the research location in Pekanbaru city, the results of the study highlighted prevention strategies including strict supervision of election activities, proactive prosecution of alleged violations, and intensive education to the public to better understand the dangers of money politics. Through this approach, Bawaslu seeks to foster public awareness and enforce applicable regulations, while encouraging clean and transparent political behaviour. In addition, this study also noted that there were reports of alleged money politics practices in 2019 and 2024, but these reports could not be continued after being processed because they were deemed ineligible or not in accordance with applicable regulations. This emphasises the importance of continuous evaluation of the prevention strategies that have been implemented by Bawaslu to ensure their effectiveness. This evaluation allows Bawaslu to adjust supervision and prosecution methods according to the dynamics of the field, so that the strategy to eradicate money politics can run optimally and in line with existing regulatory developments.
