Abstract

The Phenomenon of Commercial Sex Services Through the Michat Application (A Study of 3 Female Students from University X as Providers of Commercial Sex Services Through the Michat Application in Pekanbaru) ABSTRACT By: Rachmat Fajar Saleh NPM 187510878 This research examines the phenomenon of using commercial sex services through the MiChat application among students and workers in Pekanbaru. The problem addressed focuses on the factors driving the use of these services, as well as their impact on individuals and society. The aim of this study is to understand the motivations and interaction processes between service providers and buyers, as well as to investigate the perspective of public administrators regarding this phenomenon. The research method employed is qualitative, using in-depth interviews with informants, including service providers, buyers, public complaint managers, and hotel staff. The interview results indicate that feelings of loneliness, emotional needs, and the urge for exploration are the main reasons for using these services, while the transaction process typically involves clear communication and the selection of safe locations. Analysis is conducted referencing Rational Choice theory, which explains that individuals make decisions based on a calculation of costs and benefits. The conclusion of this research summarizes that this phenomenon reflects complex individual needs, while also highlighting the importance of awareness regarding associated risks, and the necessity for interventions from the government and society to provide healthier alternatives.
