Abstract

In this day and age, many children say that at first they just tried it and in the end ended up getting addicted to it because cigarettes can cause users to become addicted, making it difficult to give up cigarettes. Starting from elementary school children who initially tried using leftover cigarette butts from other people. Likewise, middle school children have started to dare to buy cigarettes at shops and high school children have started buying packaged cigarettes, that is what must be prevented because they are not yet old enough. Consumer protection is an effort to protect and ensure consumer rights in transacting or using products and services. Consumers are anyone who buys or uses goods, services or facilities provided by business actors. Consumer protection in Indonesia is regulated by Law Number 8 of 1999. This law applies to the entire territory of Indonesia and regulates the rights and obligations of consumers and business actors The lack of strict enforcement of sanctions means that cigarette sales to minors are still not monitored. The main problem of this research is, how is consumer protection from selling cigarettes to minors in the Sail sub-district, Pekanbaru City,What causes business actors to sell cigarettes to minors. The author uses empirical research methods, namely research carried out directly in the field by conducting interviews and questionnaires directly with respondents. Meanwhile, this research is descriptive in nature, that is, it describes the problem clearly from the condition of the object being studied. The results of this research show that the community is expected to be able to work together in an effort to provide protection for their children so that they are kept away from cigarettes, because smoking can cause dangerous diseases. Where is the role of parents, especially in monitoring their children's growth. Meanwhile, the government carries out outreach to schools. Regarding the dangers of smoking is very important so that children in Indonesia are healthy. And also for schools, schools also play a very important role in controlling smoking among underage children.
