Abstract
his research aims to determine students' critical thinking abilities based on gender in biology learning material on environmental change and preservation of class X students at SMA Negeri 7 Pekanbaru in the 2023/2024 academic year. This research method is descriptive, carried out through surveys. Data collection was carried out using tests in the form of questions, initial observation sheets, interviews and documentation. The sample in this study was 80 students. The results of the research showed that critical thinking skills in male gender, the first indicator was 56.25% in the medium category, the second indicator was 56.71% in the medium category, the third indicator was 66.65% in the medium category, the fourth indicator was 60.78% in the medium category, the indicator fifth 52.03 low category. Meanwhile, for female gender, the first indicator is 62.81% in the medium category, the second indicator is 54.68% in the low category, the third indicator is 57.34% in the medium category, the fourth indicator is 63.75 in the medium category, the fifth indicator is 63.59. So the average result of the critical thinking ability of the male gender was 58.28% in the medium category, while for the female gender the score was 60.43% in the medium category.
