Abstract

Mathematical problem solving ability is an ability that students must have in the current 21st century era. However, the fact is that current mathematical problem solving abilities are very low. Therefore, this research aims to determine the effect of the model Case Based Learning (CBL) on the mathematical problem solving abilities of students at SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru. The type of research used is quasi-experimental research (Quasi Experimental Design) with research design, namely Pretest-Posttest Control Group Design using techniques random sampling. This research was carried out in the even semester of the 2023/2024 academic year. The population in this study was all class VIII of SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru for the 2023/2024 academic year, while the sample was class VIII2 as experimental class and class VIII3 as a control class. The data collection technique used is a test technique, namely using a mathematical problem solving ability question sheet and a non-test technique, namely using an interview guide and an observation sheet on learning implementation. All learning instruments and devices have met the valid criteria or are suitable for use. The data analysis techniques used are descriptive statistical analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Descriptive statistical analysis shows that the average mathematical problem solving ability of experimental class students is higher than that of the control class. Furthermore, based on inferential statistical analysis the data was assumed to be normal and homogeneous so that the t-test was used and the results were obtained = 2,04 > = 1,99 Thus H0 rejected and H1 accepted, which means there is a model influence Case Base Learning (CBL) on the mathematical problem solving abilities of students at SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru.
