Abstract

The aim of this research is to find out whether there is any significant effect of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method on students' reading comprehension of second grade at SMKN 1 Perhentian Raja. This research was conducted at SMKN 1 Perhentian Raja, researchers found that there were several difficulties faced by students in reading comprehension. This research uses a quasi-experimental method with a quantitative approach. The samples used were two classes, namely class XI TKJ 2 as an experimental class with a total of 26 students and XI APAT as a control class with a total of 35 students. The total number of samples used was 61 students. To obtain data for this research, researchers used a reading test as an instrument by giving 15 questions in the form of essay questions. The data analysis technique in this research uses the IBM SPSS Version 29 application. Based on the results of data analysis from this research, it was found that the average pre-test score in the experimental class was 53.23 and the post- test score was 83.65. Meanwhile, in the control class, the students' average pre-test score was 48.34 and the post-test score was 60.02. Then, based on the output results from the independent sample T-test table, the T observe (ta) was obtained 0.322. Then at a significance level of 5% (0.05), the T table (t) was 0.2521 with degree of freedom (df) N-261-2 59. This can be seen from the to and it values, the comparison was 0.322 > 0.2521 or (to t). It means that the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Based on the findings of the data above, it can be concluded that there was a significant effect of Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) method on students reading comprehension of second grade at SMKN 1 Perhentian Raja.
