Abstract

This study aims to describe and analyze the expressive speech acts found in the film Agak Laen. The theory used in this study is the theory of expressive speech acts proposed by J.R. Searle. This study applies a qualitative approach using content analysis. The data source in this study is all the utterances of the actors in the film. The research data includes all the utterances of the actors in the film Agak Laen that fall under the function of expressive speech acts. The data was collected through observation, note-taking, and documentation techniques. The results of the study found 48 instances of expressive speech acts. The expressive speech act of gratitude consisted of 8 instances, the expressive speech act of forgiveness consisted of 10 instances, the expressive speech act of blame consisted of 24 instances, the expressive speech act of praise consisted of 3 instances, and the expressive speech act of condolence consisted of 3 instances. he function of blaming speech acts is frequently found in this study because the characters in the film are somewhat different in the story where conflict occurs. The function of blaming is frequently found because the main theme explores the dynamics of interpersonal relationships that are full of conflict and personal interests. The characters in this film face difficult situations and tend to blame others to protect themselves and relinquish responsibility. The expressive speech act functions of forgiving and congratulating are not found in this film because it emphasizes conflict, humor, or emotional dynamics that do not require expressions of forgiveness or congratulations as part of the main narrative.
