Abstract

The yard can be utilized and managed through an integrated approach of various types of plants, livestock and fish so as to ensure the continuous availability of diverse foodstuffs to meet family food and nutrition. This study aims to analyze: 1) characteristics of farm women, farming profile, and characteristics of agricultural extension workers 2) performance of agricultural extension workers and government support, 3) farmer behavior and the success of the yard land utilization program, 4) factors that significantly influence the behavior of farm women and 5) policy implications for improving the success of farming programs utilizing yard land. The research method used was survey method. The selected sample amounted to 60 people with multistage sampling. The analysis used is descriptive statistics and Partial Least Square (PLS) method to determine the factors that significantly influence the behavior of farm women. The results showed that most of the farmers were of productive age, had a senior high school education, a family size of 4 people with considerable farming experience. Agricultural extension officers numbered 5 people with a Strata 1 education level with an average number of fostered groups of 21 groups. Overall, the performance of agricultural extension workers is categorised as good with an achievement of 76.8%, government support for the yard land utilisation programme is categorised as good with an achievement of 78.8%. Farmer behaviour in the yard land use program is in poor condition or less successful with an achievement of 47.4%. The success of the yard land utilisation programme is in poor condition with an achievement of 37.4%. The variable that significantly influences the behaviour of farmers is government support. Meanwhile, the variables that significantly influence the success of the yard utilization program are farmer characteristics, performance of agricultural extension workers and farmer behaviour. Increasing the success of the yard utilisation programme in Bantan District must pay attention to the stages of growth, development and maturation or independence that pay attention to technical, economic and institutional aspects.
