Abstract
The objective of this research is to identify what kinds of punctuation error that are most commonly made by the second grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Pekanbaru. Researchers collected data by giving test based on descriptive text without punctuation. The method used in this research is qualitative method in descriptive analysis. It was arranged as the following procedures: collecting data from the students, classifying the data in grammatical errors, describe the data interpret the data and conclude the data. The research finding showed that the most frequent error which most students conducted was capital letter with 44%; full stop 28.2% and comma 27.8%. Whilst, the most frequent types of error that students highly made was misformation error with 52.6%; omission error 43.8%; addition error 3.6% and misordering 0%. It can be concluded that most of the second grade students of SMK Negeri 3 Pekanbaru are still making error in using punctuation.
