Abstract

The teacher gives a YouTube video, and students understand to listen. Based on the student’s problem in lack of vocabulary, hard to understand sentences from native speakers, and students feel bored with the learning media used by teacher when providing English learning material. The objective of the research is to find out whether there is significant effect of using YouTube video on students’ listening skills at SMA Negeri 7 Pekanbaru. In this research, the researcher used experimental research, the methodology being quantitative research. The population of the data was 256 students in the SMA Negeri 7 Pekanbaru. The sample of this research was 64 students. The researcher applied YouTube media in experimental class. While in control class the researcher did not apply the media. The instrument of this research was listening test while the listening test used in pre-test and post-test. The data was analyzed by using SPSS 29. The students’ mean score was higher than the mean score in the pre-test (89,25 > 41,06). The researcher found that the significant value was 0.000, and the alpha was 0.05 (0.000 < 0.05). The researcher found that applying YouTube as media is able to give influence students’ listening indicators are focused on the skill of students in listening for gist, listening for detailed information, and making inferences. Hence, the researcher hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. The researcher concludes there is a significant effect after YouTube assisted on students’ listening skills at SMA Negeri 7 Pekanbaru
