Abstract

Urbanization increases the demand for urban land, leading to high building density and reduced vegetated land. This impacts surface temperatures, which have risen significantly since the 20th century, creating Urban Heat Islands (UHI). In Indonesia, the growth of urban spaces continues to increase, with the conversion of non-agricultural land being a primary factor. Padang Panjang has experienced an increase in residential areas and a reduction in vegetated land by 42.5 hectares, heightening vulnerability to UHI. Zoning regulations are needed to manage the intensity of land use and maintain a balance between residential, industrial, commercial, and green open spaces. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the relationship between land surface temperature and land use intensity in Padang Panjang, which is important for contributing to sustainable urban planning. This study employs quantitative methods, utilizing the Split Window Algorithm (SWA) with data from Landsat 8 to identify land surface temperatures in Padang Panjang. To identify land use intensity, operational variables KDB (Building Base Coefficient), KDH (Green Base Coefficient), and KLB (Building Floor Coefficient) are used, sourced from secondary data (building data) provided by the Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency of Padang Panjang. Pearson correlation analysis is used to identify the relationship between land surface temperature and land use intensity in Padang Panjang. The results of the land surface temperature identification show a temperature difference between the city center and the outskirts of 1-5°C, with an average temperature of 30.5°C, the highest temperature being in the city center. Identification of land use intensity shows that the average Building Base Coefficient (KDB) in the city center is 70%-80%, the Green Base Coefficient (KDH) is 20%-30%, and the Building Floor Coefficient (KLB) is 0.7-1.6. The lowest KDB is found in the rice field areas of Kelurahan Sigando, while the highest is in the shop buildings along Jalan Pasar Baru. There is a strong relationship between land surface temperature and land use intensity; KDB and KLB have a positive correlation with land surface temperature, whereas KDH has a negative correlation
