Abstract

This research uses a qualitative approach. In this study there were 10 subjects. The data collection techniques used were interviews, observation and documentation. The research results show that cultural communication in the ma'awuo tradition in Tambang District, Kampar Regency has a verbal communication process and non-verbal symbols. The symbolic meaning in the ma'awuo tradition is strengthening the ties between ninik mamak and nephews and other people in the community, solidarity in catching fish, maintaining close relationships, providing each other with the benefits of life to make each other happy, maintaining mutual harmony, a bond that unites families who have migrated during the ma'awuo traditional event.
