Abstract
This research departs from the differences between the two cultures of married couples between Javanese and Malay tribes in terms of communication and also the traditional tetomeh healing process. This research focuses on the Rengat City area, Indragiri Hulu, Riau Province. On the basis of these differences, researchers consider this to be very interesting to study, thus raising the research question of how communication between Javanese and Malay family cultures occurs in the traditional process of tetomeh treatment in Rengat City. The research method in this thesis is qualitative research with descriptive analysis presentation. The research results show that intercultural communication in married couples from Javanese and Malay families in Rengat City reflects the application of the cultural adaptation theory put forward by Young Yun Kim. This theory emphasizes that individuals who come from different cultural backgrounds will go through an adaptation process to achieve harmony in life together. Regarding tetomeh traditional medicine, Javanese and Malay married couples as a whole understand each couple's cultural process of traditional medicine by adapting to each other from different backgrounds.
