Abstract

This research aims to obtain an overview of the scientific literacy and digital literacy abilities of SMPN 25 Pekanbaru students in learning. This research is a quantitative descriptive research with a survey method. The data collection instruments used in this research were scientific literacy questions adapted from PISA 2015 and a digital literacy skills questionnaire. This research was conducted in July 2023. The population of this research was all class IX students. The research sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique with the sample size for scientific literacy being 119 students and digital literacy being 221 students. Regarding students' scientific literacy abilities, the research results show that students' abilities are in the very low category. The percentage of competency in explaining scientific phenomena is 32.84%, evaluating and designing scientific investigations is 3.50% and interpreting data and evidence scientifically is 37.11%. The results of research on students' digital literacy skills show that in all aspects they are in the sufficient category with a percentage of internet searches of 68%, hypertextual navigation of 69%, evaluation of information content of 72% and knowledge compilation by 74%. Based on the results of this research, it can be concluded that class IX students at SMPN 25 Pekanbaru have very low scientific literacy skills with an average percentage of 24.48%, while digital literacy skills are sufficient with an average percentage of 71%.
