Abstract

This research aims to analyze student learning obstacles and factors causing student learning obstacles in solving problems in class VII junior high school fractional material. The type of research used is qualitative descriptive research. The subjects in the study were grade VII students of SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru for the 2023/2024 school year. The research instruments are in the form of test sheets, questionnaires and interviews, while data collection techniques are test techniques consisting of written tests and non-test techniques in the form of questionnaires, interviews and documentation. Data analysis is carried out through several stages which include data reduction, data presentation and conclusions. Based on the results of the study, it has been obtained that; (1) Overall, the dominant learning obstacles that occur in grade VII students of SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru ontogeny obstacles; (2) Of the 14 indicators that have been used, the factors causing learning obstacles in solving problems in fractional material in grade VII SMP Negeri 32 Pekanbaru were found, namely; (a) parents who are always busy and do not pay attention to the development of students' studies and the economic situation of the family that has not been able to meet the needs of students for school; (b) the attitude of students who like to invite friends to chat during mathematics learning makes the classroom atmosphere not conducive to making some students copy their friends' answers and this causes other students to become less interested in learning mathematics; (c) how to teach the teacher when explaining the material too quickly makes students confused and less masterful of the material.
