Abstract
Slang is language (words, phrases, and usages) of an informal words and phrases in register in speech between people from the same social group and it is not suitable for formal contexts and is often not use for long. This research aimed to know the kind of slang word that mostly used by generation z on social media (Facebook, Instagram, and X) and the reason generation z uses slang words as communication tool in social media. This research is a qualitative study. The data of the research collected from social media which is from Facebook, Instagram, and X researcher friends on social media account comments and postings and the sample of this research is 60 social media accounts; 20 Facebook users, 20 Instagram users, and 20 X users. The supporting instrument in this research is documentation. The result of this research indicated that the type that generation z often uses in social media is acronym type. As a differentiator from each social media, Facebook is the social media with the most users of clipping, in addition the reason generation z uses slang can be said to distinguish writing from formal ones.
