Abstract

Sludge separator is a tool used to separate palm oil from sludge, the sludge is in the form of water, sand, and mud. One important component in the sludge separator is the nozzle holder. The nozzle holder is a component in the sludge separator that functions as a place or holder for the nozzle and the nozzle holder is also used as a channel in the separation process. Checking the nozzle holder is done within 396 hours after the separator machine operates because the nozzle holder is prone to damage. When the nozzle holder is damaged, the CPO oil will be wasted, causing oil losses. This research was conducted to determine the cause of the damage, get the hardness value and the crack mechanism that occurs in the nozzle holder. In this study, the results of the composition test on the nozzle holder material show that the material used is stainless steel with the 200 series which should be stainless steel (SS 302). The average hardness value of the nozzle holder is 446,45 HBW, this shows that there is no problem with the hardness of the material. The crack that occurs in the material is a processing stress crack, the crack arises when processing the thread on the material which propagates to the end of the nozzle holder resulting in the material breaking. In this study, the results of microstructure observations clearly show the grain boundaries produced and show that the material used is a stainles steel with austenitic type
