Abstract

The study titled "The Effect of Gypsum Waste as a Partial Replacement for Cement in Cement Treated Base Course (CTBC) Work" aims to analyze the impact of incorporating gypsum waste as a supplementary material in cement-treated base course applications for flexible pavements. This research is pertinent due to the increasing demand for sustainable construction practices and the need to mitigate construction waste.In this experimental study conducted at the Civil Engineering Laboratory of Islamic University of Riau, samples of cement treated base (CTB) were prepared with varying percentages of gypsum waste (0%, 4%, 8%, and 12%) as a partial substitute for cement. The study evaluated the compressive strength of the samples after 7 days of curing. The testing involved a series of procedures, including material preparation, grading tests, and compressive strength tests conducted under controlled laboratory conditions. The results indicated that samples with 4% gypsum waste exhibited the highest average compressive strength of 70.05 Kg/cm², surpassing the control sample strength of 65.13 Kg/cm². However, further additions of gypsum (8% and 12%) resulted in a decrease in compressive strength, indicating an optimal level for gypsum substitution. This research provides insights into the potential of utilizing gypsum waste, which not only enhances the mechanical properties of CTB but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing waste in construction processes.
