Abstract

Efforts to Combat Illegal Logging Crimes by the Environment and Forestry Service in 2020-2023 (Case Study in Lingga Regency-Riau Islands) (Case Study in Lingga Regency-Riau Islands) MUHAMMAD FALYASYIL RAHIM Department of Criminology Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Islam Riau Jl. Kaharudin Nasution No. 13 Email: muhammadfalyasyilrahim@student.uir.ac.id ABSTRACT Illegal logging crimes pose a serious threat to environmental and ecosystem damage due to the lack of efforts by law enforcement officers, the government and the community to take firm action against the perpetrators. This study aims to analyze the efforts made by the Environment and Forestry Service (DLHK) in tackling illegal logging crimes in the 2020-2023 period. This study uses a qualitative research method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the study show that efforts to combat illegal logging in Lingga Regency include preventive efforts, such as socialization to the community regarding the importance of maintaining forest sustainability, strengthening forest patrols, and monitoring business permits for the use of forest products. In addition, repressive efforts in the form of law enforcement are also carried out in collaboration with the police and the prosecutor's office, but have not been implemented properly due to limited human resources and budget, as well as the persistence of corrupt practices that affect the effectiveness of policies. The author's suggestion is that there needs to be improvement in terms of coordination between agencies, stricter law enforcement, and active community involvement to realize sustainable forest management.
