Abstract

This study aims to identify and eliminate sources of electricity waste in the Rectorate Building of the Islamic University of Riau based on the lean management perspective, in order to support higher education. The electricity waste that occurs is mainly caused by the habit of not turning off electronic devices such as lights, air conditioners, computers and printers after use and excessive use of these electronic devices. This study highlights the relevance of implementing lean management in formulating strategies to reduce electricity waste. Some of the proposed strategies include using LED lights, using sensor technology or automatic systems, using solar panels, holding workshops or socializations, making notifications in each room, turning off electronics when not needed, reminding each other between colleagues, adjusting the number of electronic devices, conducting controls, using one interconnected printer, using an all-in-one computer and using air conditioning. It is planned that the implementation of lean management will help the UIR rectorate building in achieving operational cost savings, energy efficiency and university sustainability.
