Abstract
Water pollution in the Siak River is a crtitical environmental issue caused by industrial, domestic, and agricultural waste. This study aims to develop an Internet of Things (IoT)-based river water quality monitoring system employing the Canadian Council Ministers of the Environment Water Quality Index (CCMEWQI). The system integrates ESP32 with pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen (DO), electrical conductivity (EC), and ultrasonic sensors to monitor water quality parameters in real-time. Data is accessible via a web-based platform, enabling direct monitoring and rapid decision-making. A prototyping method was employed, from design to field implementation. Testing was conducted at various times to verify sensor accuracy against standard measurement tools. Results indicate the system accurately detects parameters, reporting the Siak River's water quality as poor, with CCME-WQI scores below 45. This system significantly contributes to environmental monitoring, facilitates early pollution detection, and supports conservation policies.
