Abstract
The design of computer network infrastructure and firewall security at the Riau Provincial Education Office has problems with computer network security where there are many security vulnerabilities on the server, this makes it very easy for a Cybercrime to enter the internet network at the Agency, this research addresses challenges such as: unstable network performance, vulnerability to cyber threats, and the need for data security and confidentiality of education administration centrally. This research aims to create a reliable, secure and efficient network system to support digital services in the education sector. MikroTik was chosen as the solution due to its flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and robust features for traffic management and network security. The design phase includes network topology analysis, configuration of MikroTik devices as routers and firewalls, network filtering, and blocking unauthorized access through port management. Firewall rules were optimized to protect sensitive data and prevent attacks such as DDoS, malware, and unauthorized access. Tests were conducted to evaluate network performance parameters such as latency, bandwidth, and throughput, as well as security vulnerability assessment using penetration testing tools. The results of the research had a positive impact on the agency's system by increasing the security system by 7% and producing impacts such as: layered firewall security systems, successfully improving Cybersecurity in network systems, increasing data confidentiality in the system, and successfully reducing the potential risk of data loss from 53.5% to 46.5%. This solution supports the management of administrative data, and other digital services at the Riau Province Education Office. The research concluded that combining a MikroTik-based network infrastructure and a proactive firewall security approach is essential to meet the growing demands of cybersecurity and digital transformation in the education sector.
