Abstract
Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are often referred to as the country's foreign exchange heroes because of their contribution in supporting the growth of the national economy. Today, although Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are referred to as the country's foreign exchange heroes, they often face inadequate working conditions abroad. Such as experiencing exploitation, discrimination, excessive working hours, unpaid salaries, and other criminal acts, so that Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) are vulnerable to the risk of human trafficking. There have been many government efforts in providing protection to Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) such as by adopting related conventions and creating placement schemes through the Government to Government program. The main problems of this research are, the role of BP3MI in providing legal protection through the Government to Government program as well as the constraints and efforts of BP3MI in providing legal protection to Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI). The method used in this research is empirical legal research by conducting research on the role of the Indonesian Migrant Workers Protection Service Center (BP3MI) Pekanbaru in providing legal protection. Data collection techniques are through direct interviews and using media (telephone, and video calls). While the nature of research in this study is descriptive analytical, namely the overall picture in the field. From the results of this study, it is known that BP3MI has played a role in providing legal protection for PMI by creating Siskop2mi and E-PMI as a means of protecting PMI in the placement country, while the obstacles faced by BP3MI are PMI who do not comply with the contract, PMI who commit crimes in the placement country, the efforts made by BP3MI are to prevent it by implementing Pre-Departure Orientation (OPP) to PMI. OPP is conducted to provide an understanding of PMI when in the placement country.
