Abstract

This study aims to design and develop a prototype of a guest monitoring aid for people with hearing impairments based on the Internet of Things (IoT). According to data from the United Nations (UN), approximately 15% of the world's population, or around 1 billion people, have disabilities. In Indonesia, data from the Central Statistics Agency (CSA) in 2020 shows that out of a total population of 270,203,917 people, 39,650,184 are categorized as persons with disabilities, including hearing impairments. To address the difficulties faced by people with hearing impairments in detecting the arrival of guests, this study developed an IoT-based monitoring system consisting of a smart doorbell with notifications to a Telegram bot and a special wristband for hearing-impaired individuals that provides visual and vibration notifications. The system uses components such as ESP32-Cam, NodeMCU, infrared sensors, and RF communication modules. Testing using the black box method demonstrates that the system successfully provides guest arrival notifications through Telegram messages and wristband alerts. This research contributes to the development of assistive technology for people with disabilities, particularly those with hearing impairments, to enhance their independence and security.
