Abstract

Parking is one of the problems often encountered in the transportation system, the use of the road as a parking area has a very large contribution to the reduction of existing road capacity, and will cause traffic congestion problems. The purpose of this study is to identify the impact of on-road parking on traffic performance on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan around Pasar Bawah, Bukittinggi City from the intersection of Jalan Soekarno Hatta to the intersection of Jalan Syekh Jamil Jambek which is approximately 200 meters away. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method and the results of the analysis of this study are that the characteristics of the Perintis Kemerdekaan Road section around the Pasar Bawah Road section of Bukittinggi City are city roads with a type of 2/2 T functioning as a secondary collector road, have characteristics of parking space on the road body with a 90° parking pattern for 2-wheeled vehicles and a parallel parking pattern for 4-wheeled vehicles, and have land use characteristics in the form of trade, education and worship. With the presence of parking activities on the roadside on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan, Bukittinggi City, the level of road service has decreased to level E, which means unstable flow, low speed and volume approaching capacity. The effect of parking on traffic performance on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan on Thursdays and Sundays has a strong with value the correlation coefficient is equal to 0,609 influence on traffic volume on Jalan Perintis Kemerdekaan. This is evidenced by the lack of available parking spaces causing vehicle users to park on the roadside, while parking on the roadside will narrow the road which results in congestion during peak hours of vehicle movement.
