Abstract

Developments in the field of oil palm plantations in addition to producing oil, oil palm sticks are processed into handicraft products. One of the needs of the people of the Riau region is a design of a stick cleaning machine from oil palm fronds. This research aims to design an effective and efficient cleaning machine tool to clean sticks from palm frond leaf waste using a double wire brush. In this study, the designed machine will have a cleaning capacity of 10kg/hour. The results of the calculation of the required transmission shaft diameter is 19.8 mm with a belt circumference length of 1,800.68 mm spaced 640 mm axis and the diameter of the conveyor shaft is 18.97 mm with a belt circumference length of 1,465.37 mm spaced 435 mm axis. The result of the gear transmission ratio comparison is 1: 1 which in one pull of the gear transmission will get about 1 rotation of the drive gear transmission from the load to the conveyor. The results of the peg calculation obtained a peg width of 5 mm and a peg height of 3.33 mm. The results of the production efficiency of the stick cleaning machine from waste palm frond leaves against the power given to the motor is 13.42 kg / kW.
