Abstract

High School (SMA) is one of the levels of education before entering college. During the process of continuing their education to tertiary level, students often experience confusion about making the right decision regarding what major to take. From the analysis that the author has carried out, the majority of students currently feel they have made the wrong choice of major. This is proven in research conducted by the Indonesia Career Center Network (ICCN) which shows that 87% of Indonesian students admit that the major they have taken does not match their interests. Mistakes when choosing a major have a negative impact, such as low student learning achievement due to the lack of academic motivation that students have, as well as increased costs incurred by parents and also the duration of study which must continue to be extended to complete the course. So, students must avoid mistakes in choosing a major in college. A decision support system (DSS) is a computer-based interactive system that can help people make decisions. The Simple Additive Weighting (SAW) method is an approach that uses weighted additions to measure and compare the performance of alternatives in a particular category. Based on the results of implementing the system using a Likert scale with 23 respondents (students) showing a result of 88.8% with a very good predicate, so that the decision support system for recommending student study majors at SMA N 1 Seberida using the simple additive weighting (SAW) method is feasible to be implemented .
