Abstract

Consumer protection is a very important issue in the context of food and beverage trade, especially in Indonesia. Bottled coffee product packaging that does not include the halal logo is a major concern, considering that many consumers rely on this information to ensure the halalness of the products they consume. This raises the question, how is consumer protection for bottled coffee product packaging that does not include the halal logo at Groove Coffee Shop located in Pekanbaru? This consumer protection practice is very important, because it is not only related to consumer rights to obtain clear and accurate information about the products they buy, but also serves to maintain public trust in the products in circulation. In this study, the formulation of the problems raised includes: (1) How is consumer protection for bottled coffee product packaging that does not include the halal logo based on Law Number 8 of 1999? (2) What are the legal consequences of violations of consumer protection related to bottled coffee product packaging that does not include the halal logo based on Law Number 8 of 1999? The results of the study indicate that food and beverage products are basic needs that must meet safety, health, and quality standards, including halal. In the Indonesian context, halal is an important aspect in consumer protection, as regulated in Law Number 8 of 1999 and Law Number 33 of 2014 concerning Halal Product Assurance. Producers are obliged to ensure that the products distributed meet legal standards and do not harm consumers, including the obligation to include a halal label on the product. The legal consequences of violations of consumer protection include civil and criminal aspects. In the civil realm, producers are responsible for consumer losses by providing compensation, while in criminal law, business actors can be subject to imprisonment or fines if the violation causes serious impacts. This shows the importance of implementing product responsibility and business ethics as an effort to create fair legal protection for consumers.
