Abstract

The most important factor in a drilling operation is drilling mud. Problems that often arise in drilling operations are during the circulation of drilling mud. During the circulation process, there are several problems, one of which is: Lost circulation. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to provide lost circulation material in the mud that will be circulated during drilling operations. This study uses LCM (lost circulation material) from Grapefruit Peel. The method in this study uses laboratory tests, which include: density, viscosity, plastic viscosity, yield point, gel strength, filtration loss using concentrations of 5 grams, 10 grams, 15 grams at room temperature. The test results, Density, Plastic viscosity, Yield Point and Gel Strength increased with increasing concentration of grapefruit peel LCM as an additional additive and showed its effectiveness in controlling mud rheology, filtration loss testing using grapefruit peel LCM filtrate continued to decrease, due to the cellulose content in the skin of 46.22% which functions as a water binder and is still within the API standard range. Comparison of the test results between grapefruit peel LCM and industrial LCM (CalCO3) on rheology did not have significant results, but the gel strength value of 15 gr concentration with the addition of LCM (CaCO3) was obtained 0.9 (Ib / 100ft2) while the API standard range is 0.6 - 0.8 lb / 100ft2. The filtration loss value using 5 gr industrial LCM (CalCO3) obtained a filtrate volume of 16 ml, and did not meet the API Spec 13A standard for filtration loss testing with a range of 5-15 ml maximum, while the smallest value was the addition of 15 gr grapefruit peel LCM, which was 11.7 ml.
