Abstract

Approximately 40% of the oil can be recovered using primary and secondary recovery techniques. To improve oil recovery, Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods, particularly through surfactant-polymer (SP) injection, have been proven effective in reducing residual oil saturation and increasing the recovery factor. Surfactant-polymer injection reduces the interfacial tension between the oil and water phases, and enhances the mobilization of trapped oil, while the polymer increases the viscosity of the injection water, which reduces water mobility and improves oil recovery efficiency. Relative permeability, which describes the ability of the rock to transmit different fluid phases, influences phase distribution and the effectiveness of EOR. Using reservoir simulation, this study aims to analyze the relationship between changes in relative permeability curves during surfactant-polymer injection, and their impact on the recovery factor. The results of the study for different scenarios will analyze how variations in SOR (0.2, 0.15, 0.1, and 0.05) affect cumulative oil production and the recovery factor. When adjusting the SOR values, significant differences in cumulative oil production and recovery factor were observed. In the SOR 0.2 scenario, the recovery factor was 21.31%, compared to 20.87% in the base case model. The SOR 0.15 scenario resulted in a recovery factor of 21.42%, while the SOR 0.1 scenario showed a notable recovery factor of 21.67%. Finally, the SOR 0.05 scenario achieved a recovery factor of 21.57%.
