Abstract

Scale is a mineral deposit that forms on the surface in contact with formation water when oil is produced from the reservoir to the surface and is formed due to the crystallization of mineral ions that dissolve in water and is caused by the presence of scale-forming compounds in the water that exceed their solubility. Scale formation goes through 3 stages, namely the crystal nucleus formation stage (nucleation), the nucleus growth stage and the crystal deposition stage to the surface. One method used to reduce growth and scale formation is by using inhibitors. This research used a scale inhibitor with a combination of pineapple peel extract and grade 2 coconut shell liquid smoke. The results of testing tannin compounds in pineapple peel extract using UV-vis spectrophotometry were obtained 25.10%. This research discusses the growth rate of calcium carbonate scales from a mixture of anhydrous CaCl2 solution with Na2CO3 solution with growth concentrations of 1 M, 1.5 M and 2 M. This research also discusses the combination of ingredients from pineapple peel extract and coconut shell liquid smoke with inhibitor concentrations of 5 ml, 10 ml and 15 ml with varying soaking times of 60 and 90 minutes. Based on research that has been carried out, the scale growth rate is best at a concentration of 2M, with 90 minute soaking time, namely 19 gr. Inhibitor testing of the combination of pineapple peel extract and grade 2 coconut shell liquid smoke is best at reducing scale at a growth rate of 1 M with an inhibitor concentration of 15 ml with a 90-minute immersion time of 20.90%.
