Abstract

Motives for Using Facebook Social Media among Cambodian Foreign Students at Riau Islamic UniversityIntan Feronica Eka Putri NPM: 189110214This study aims to determine the motives for using Facebook media among Cambodian foreign students at Riau Islamic University. This research method uses a qualitative descriptive method by conducting in-depth interviews with informants. The subjects of this study were five Cambodian students at Riau Islamic University. This study uses the motive theory of Alfred Schutz which consists of two indicators namely because motives (weil-motives) and in order motives. This theory explains the causal motives that originate from the urge of past events, as well as future events that produce a goal. The results of this study indicate that there are four motives for Cambodian students in using Facebook media, namely information sharing motives,self-expression motives, interaction motives and entertainment motives.
