Abstract

Abstract Self-representation of female mountaineers on Instagram account Alza Alfya 189110121 Self-representation is an image that someone deliberately builds to achieve a goal to be achieved. Representation can be interpreted as a picture of something contained in life that is depicted through social media technology such as Instagram. Currently, Instagram is always used to present themselves by uploading photos and videos related to someone's hobbies such as mountain climbing. Mountain climbing is an adventure activity in the open to the highest peak, mountain climbing activities are not only favored by men but also many women. The purpose of this study is to find out the representation of female mountaineers from Riau on Instagram accounts. This study uses a type of qualitative descriptive research with data analysis techniques in the form of observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques are carried out through data reduction and conclusions. This research was conducted on three Instagram accounts of female mountaineers, the results showed that female mountaineers from Riau used Instagram as a medium of communication to store memories, provide information, and self-existence from every photo upload such as outfits as safety. A photo post of a female mountaineer from Riau on intagram presents herself as a warrior woman who is independent, can overcome obstacles, and is able to face risks.
