Abstract

Jaga Island, which is recognized as a district strategic area (KSK) with the status of an integrated marine and fisheries center (SKPT), has developed the local economy through seaweed cultivation. This research aims to formulate the concept of sustainable village development by focusing on the local economy based on seaweed cultivation on Jaga Island, Moro District, Karimun Regency. The research method used is inductive research with a mixed approach, integrating qualitative and quantitative methods. The analysis was carried out using qualitative descriptive techniques to understand seaweed cultivation and fishbone analysis, while the social life of the people on Jaga Island was analyzed using a tribina community analysis approach and PCA (Principal Component Analysis) analysis with SPSS 26.0 which was used to calculate what factors affect seaweed cultivation on Jaga Island. The results showed that the majority of Jaga Island's population acted as seaweed farmers with an average education level reaching high school. People's limited incomes lead to a lack of formal employment opportunities, putting them below the poverty line. In seaweed farming, the focus of society is on Eucheuma Cottoni species, but production and growth factors have a significant impact. Nevertheless, the solidarity and cooperation of the people of Pulau Jaga, especially through the practice of gotong royong, has allowed them to diversify their business by producing processed products such as seaweed dodol and handicrafts. This collaboration creates mutual support in facing the complexity of economic and social challenges on Jaga Island.
