Abstract

One of human needs is water for daily life. The existence of clean water affects all aspects such as good or bad public health, the economy, and so on. To supply water, the community uses a pump. One of the pumps that is widely used in the community is a centrifugal pump. A pump is a machine or mechanical device used to move fluids such as water from one place to another, from lowlands to highlands. One of the things that influences pump performance is the total head of the pump itself. In the Tanjung Bonai area, Lintau Buo subdistrict, Tanah Datar district, the distance from the clean water source to the reservoir is approximately 100 meters. Because the head is so far away that it cannot be achieved using one pump, the average person there uses 2 pumps connected in series. The aim of this final assignment is to determine the effect of ball valve opening on pump performance, namely head loss and pump efficiency. In this research, analysis and calculation methods were carried out to obtain results from the performance of pumps connected in series and the influence of ball valve openings using theoretical equations. Based on the results of the analysis and calculations that have been carried out using 2 valve openings (ball valve), the data obtained for the discharge produced at half the ball valve opening is 0.000 23 m?/s. This value is the same as the full ball valve opening. Meanwhile, the resulting head loss is different, namely at half ball valve opening, namely 4.6358 m, this value is greater than at full ball valve opening, namely 4.27003 m. And the efficiency produced at half ball valve opening is 63.53%, this value is greater than at full ball valve opening, namely 62.53%.
