Abstract
Coconut shells are a type of agricultural waste that has economic value to be converted into alternative energy, namely briquettes. The use of coconut shell waste as raw material in making charcoal briquettes is one of the appropriate alternative fuels as a fuel source to reduce the use of kerosene because apart from being more durable longer than ordinary charcoal, the raw material is also easier to obtain. The purpose of this research was to determine the proximate analysis of coconut shell briquettes with varying densities. In the research, the percentage variation in density that will be used is 1kg, 3 kg, 5kg, 7kg, 9 kg. In proximate testing, it is carried out directly in the furnace at a temperature that has been determined in accordance with the respective proximate standards and the heating value test is carried out on a bomb calorimeter machine. from proximate research which is divided into values for water content, ash content, heating value and combustion rate. The best briquettes in the water content research were at a compressive load of 1 kg, namely 3.00%, while the best ash content value, occurred at a compressive load of 9 kg, namely 7.21%. In the calorific value research, the average results were at a load of 1 kg, namely 5865.69 cal/gr up to a compressive load of 3 kg, namely 5461.95 cal/gram, and in the research the best combustion rate occurred at a load of 1 kg, namely 0.0227 gr/min.
